Sunset Hill is one of the classic neighborhoods of Dana Point, California. It is known for its family-friendly environment and affordability.
Located in the Dana Hills area, Sunset Hill homes surround Sea Canyon Park. This community is comprised of single family homes with three to four bedrooms, and 1,400 to 2,400 square feet of living space. These single level ranch homes were built in the early 1970s by Pacesetter. Residents enjoy the decent sized yards both back and front. There are several floor plans, and most homes have a two-car garage. There are also no Mello-Roos or Home Owners Association fees here.
Street names that run throughout the Sunset Hill tract include De Leon Drive, Caribbean Way, Santiago drive, Galleon Way, and Trinidad Drive. Students in this community may attend one of many private schools in the area including Broderick Montessori School, Capo Beach Christian School, and Gloria Del Lutheran Preschool. The Capistrano Unified School District offers award winning facilities, like John Malcom Elementary School, Marco Forster Middle School, and Dana Hills High School which is one of the county’s oldest high schools.
The City of Dana Point has one of the only harbors in Orange County, and is a popular surfing destination. The Dana Point Harbor houses over 2,000 boats and yachts. The home building industry started in this area in the early 1900s with a variety of condos, townhomes, detached homes, and move-up estates. This city was named because of Richard Henry Dana, Jr. who wrote Two Years Before the Mast, describing this area as the “only romantic spot on the coast.” A replica of the Pilgrim, Dana’s ship is featured here.
Dana Point holds several yearly events including the Festival of Whales that began in 1972, and the Tall Ships Festival which is one of the largest events on the West Coast.
